Welcome!

I'm an assistant professor of social psychology at the University of Iowa. I received my Ph.D. in 2013 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and my B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology from the College of William & Mary in 2006. I have worked as a post-doctoral associate at the Duke University Kenan Institute for Ethics, and am also appointed as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Stanford University's Center for Compassion & Altruism Research and Education (CCARE).

For an introduction to my research, see my articles for the Huffington Post (here and here) and Greater Good Science Center. Below I discuss my work at the Science of Compassion conference in Telluride, Colorado. Click here to listen to me talk about empathy and compassion on Minnesota Public Radio, and here to see me present my research at Facebook.

If you would like to know more, see my CV. I plan on accepting a graduate student for fall 2014, if interested please contact me.
